LinkedIn receives Endorsements

LinkedIn has introduced a new feature called Endorsements, allowing users to recognise others for their skill and expertise.

The professional social network now lets users promote aspects of another person’s work, through a ‘Skills & Expertise’ section on their profile.

David Breger, Product Manager at LinkedIn, worked on the ‘Skills’ product and recently announced the evolution of the feature on LinkedIn's blog.

Helping hands

Users can add skills to their own profile and wait for an endorsement from a colleague, however they can also return their favour.

“You can also accept any new skills recommended by your peers that you may not have thought to include on your profile,” Breger said.

A user can populate their profile with up to 50 skills and this allows contacts to see what they would like to be endorsed for.

Recruitment made easy

LinkedIn’s Skills product allows members to find out which skills are in demand in particular industries, which is now linked to recruitment through Endorsements.

Recruiters who use LinkedIn now have the ability to see if applicants have been recognised by their workmates for outstanding work or knowledge in specific areas.

Recognising good work

As LinkedIn continues to solidify its product and build the amount of data on its network, this enhancement is good news for recent graduates and job hunters.

Rather than simply listing skills and referees on a CV, applicants will be able to direct recruiters to their active LinkedIn profile with connections who recognise their expertise.
