Last month Twitter unveiled a design refresh that included a new home page featuring a prominent header photo.
This week Time Inc. may have found a way to profit from the new design.
Paid profile placement
US tabloid magazine People, which Time Inc. owns, has started featuring advertising on People's StyleWatch Twitter Page.
The ad for Jergens Daily Moisture appears in the background of People's StyleWatch's profile page, which has close to 700,000 followers.
A new Twitter trend?
According to a report from AdAge, Twitter have confirmed that the advertisement does not contravene its terms of use.
“The space is the user’s to customize, and we encourage them to be clear if they are promoting something there, for money or other consideration,” according to a Twitter representative.
Writing on the wall
While none of Time Inc's other publications are currently running advertisement on their Twitter pages, if successful profile advertising may offer another channel for brands to reach consumers on Twitter.
