Try on Products with Facebook AR

Facebook is launching a new ad format that allows users to sample products displayed in an ad, thanks to some clever AR technology.

Lookin’ good

The spots look like standard Facebook ads, except users will notice the “Tap to Try it On” option so they can do virtually just that.

Clicking the option will allow Facebook to access your phone’s camera and overlay an AR filter of the advertised product over yourself.

Michael Kors has tested the new feature for their new line of sunglasses, superimposing them onto the users' faces.

Future filters

Facebook has demonstrated examples of Sephora ads that show how cosmetics could look, though no official filter has been announced.

There are rumours that users will be able to post photos of themselves trying on the products in-filter, so friends can have a strong hint what you may be pining for next birthday, Christmas, etc.

AR is shaping up as the next frontier in retail, with Snapchat recently partnering with Amazon for enhanced AR shopping content. We're predicting it won't be long until Instagram jumps on board.

What are your thoughts on the new AR ads? Do you believe this could be a new frontier for shoppers? Let us know your opinion in our comment section.
