Facebook is bringing VPN security to the app from its recently acquired data-security service, Onavo Protect.
Protect and serve(r)
Users will be able to better avoid malicious websites and keep personal info secure, while Facebook gains the ability to monitor user activity and trends.
Onavo’s VPN will enable Facebook to gain greater insight on other fast-rising apps, which apps are on decline, what features seem to be gaining traction, and an overall sense of competition.
Knowledge gives edge
In the back and forth battle of the Stories section with Snapchat, Facebook has already used its new analytics to ascertain its own Instagram Stories was impacting competition engagement.
Onavo also prompted Facebook to acquire the teen compliment app ‘tbh’ allowing them to integrate a similar Q&A feature into its own app.
As a complimentary security service and analytics tool, Onavo has seen over 33 million installs across Apple and Google Play, making it one of the biggest names in online security.
