Facebook recently announced “Sets,” allowing users to create groupings of specific posts around niche interests, a method more than reminiscent of Pinterest.
Facebook gets ‘Pinteresting’
Yet another step in a long methodology of getting "inspired" by their competitors very best ideas, Facebook will allow users to select several status updates, photos, or images to be shared in themed collections.
Having already given the option for users to follow niche interests through News Feed with Topics, Facebook Sets is a stronger clone of Pinterest boards, able to be shared publicly or privately.
Currently being tested, select users will notice an option to create a Set on their profile based on a selection of themes, visible to friends via your profile and News Feed.
Niche the new chique
Sets are not meant to foster Likes such as a traditional post might but are designed to target audience sharing, possibly even monetising the process for product ads being saved to user Sets.
Over time, Facebook can refine Sets as users incorporate the new feature into their own shared posts. Will the move ripple success or saturate ‘dis-pinterest’ throughout social media?
