Facebook muscles in on LinkedIn

Facebook has rolled out a new application that could threaten LinkedIn's dominance over the social jobs market.

Social Jobs Partnership

Social Jobs Partnership is an initiative that sees Facebook working with partners including The US Department of Labor to connect job candidates with vacancies and recruiters.

At launch the app had over 1.7 million listings from companies including recruitment agency Monster and Facebook recruiting solution Work4Labs.

Jobs can be searched based on skills, industry and location.

Recruiting new talent

In a blog post announcing the new tool, Facebook wrote that 50 per cent of employees now use Facebook in their hiring process, while 54 per cent anticipate the social network will become a more important part of the recruitment process in the near future.

LinkedIn killer?

While Social Jobs Partnership is currently only available in the US, if successful Facebook could roll out the model to global markets.

LinkedIn's dominance of the social jobs market could be affected if this happens, with LinkedIn's 187 million user base dwarfed by Facebook's 1 billion global users.

Shares of Mountain View, California-based LinkedIn fell 3.7 per cent after Facebook's announcement, while Facebook shares rose 13 per cent to $US22.36.
