With 2 billion users and a world of alleged fake news out there, it can be hard finding common ground these days on social.
Well, Facebook is aiming to remedy that with its latest warm and fuzzy feature: Things in Common.
The Common Touch
As reported by CNET, 'Things in Common' is a new label designed to help users connect, or at least find similarities, with Facebookers they're not currently friends with.
It works like this: when scrolling through public comments on a post, for example from a product or publisher's Page, Facebook now shows what you have in common with other commenters via the 'Things in Common' label.
These tidbits might include being part of the same Facebook Group, attending related universities, or if you hail from the same city or region.
Stranger danger?
At the moment the test is confined to a small number of US users, but might expand if the results are promising.
Is Facebook using the measure as a way to bring increasingly disparate groups of users together, or is it a more calculated move to up engagement? Either way, getting on a little better with everyone seems like a good idea for all involved.
No word yet on whether Facebook will hook up users who see the blue and black dress.
