Photography app stallwart VSCO has branched out into video.
In the app
Video editing in the VSCO app works intuitively enough: you select a video from your camera roll and apply one of VSCO’s famous presets. Save it back to your camera roll, and you’re done.
It can handle video up to 30 FPS at 4K, or 60 FPS for up to 1080. There are no limits on file size or clip length.
VSCO on the go
The base VSCO app is free in the App Store and Google Play. The Verge called it ‘the premier mobile photography app’ back in 2013, though it gets less press now.
In mid 2017, they released MP1 and MP2 to give desktop users the same presets previously only available on phone apps. Now adding video capability to their mobile app, VSCO further leverages the mobile app’s brand strength and bolsters the value prop of a VSCO X subscription.
X marks the subscription
So far, video editing is only available as ‘early access’ for iOS users signed up to Visual Supply Company’s subscription service, VSCO X.
Launched in late 2016 as ‘invite-only’, VSCO X has since been marketed more broadly, including a free trial offer.
As of 20 September, VSCO video editing on Android is still coming soon.
VSCO X’s $20 p.a. subscription price is pretty reasonable: does the inclusion of video presets push it over the line?
