Google recently added a new Trending Searches feature for its search app on iOS, showing you the most popular searches when tapping the search box.
Know what others are seeking
The new feature of popular searches is coupled with predictive answers as well, so you can type a question or get instant info before even finalising the search.
The feature was actually released last year on Android but was received with negative opinions as users did not appreciate suggestions regarding searches they’ve never made.
Since then, Google has introduced an opt-out setting in preferences, as well as refined their search algorithms.
Google refines suggested searches
Now, when typing in a question, or viewing suggested popular searches, the special results will appear with a blue up-arrow beneath the search box, making it easier to differentiate.
The data providing answers to inquiries is provided by Google’s Knowledge Graph, the company’s database sourced other knowledge bases such as CIA World Factbook and Wikipedia.
Along with Google’s new news stream algorithm, “the feed,” tailoring results to personal interests is very much a major goal. Whether this catches on or annoys users like the previous iteration, time will tell.
Have you used predictive answers with the previous Android update? Are you an apple user who’s excited for the new feature? Let us know in our comment section below.
