You’d have to be living under a rock not to notice that Instagram Stories has been somewhat of a success.
Now Stories looks set to expand, as its lifespan just got longer.
What a difference a day makes
Until now, Stories could only be posted if they were captured in the past 24 hours.
Reversing the ageism trend, we can now dredge up anything from our past digital lives and whack in on Instagram’s most popular feature.
That means any image or video on your phone library is now legitimate Story fodder. However, older posts will sport a sticker showing the date it was captured.
The caveat being that you can edit, or even delete the sticker completely, meaning no-one will ever know you’re not currently on a beach in Thailand sipping mojitos.
New < Old
The move flies in the face of Snapchat Stories, the original ‘inspiration’ for Instagram’s feature. The initial idea was that content is ephemeral and current.
But perhaps the hallowed days of 2016 were a more innocent age.
Get ready for a lot more Stories once #ThrowbackThursday rolls around and who knows, if it takes off Snapchat might nab an idea from Instagram for change.
What do you think about Stories extending its timeline? Let us know in the comments.
