Instagram has just launched Boomerang, a new app that lets you create short looping videos.
Back and forth
Instagram announced the news in a blog post.
“Capture a friend jumping off a diving board, defying physics as she flies back and forth through the air. Transform an ordinary selfie with your friends into a funny video.”
Just loopy
Boomerang works on iOS and Android, at the press of a button it takes 10 rapid fire photos.
It then stitches these together to form a one second video that can be played both backwards and forwards.
Videos can be filmed in landscape and shared on Instagram, Facebook and the major social networks.
The gift that keeps on GIFfing
The launched comes as Facebook gets more serious about short-form video and GIFs.
Facebook is trialling GIF discovery options for its mobile users, now Instagram-owned Facebook has Boomerang.
In short, expect more GIFs before the year’s out.
