Instagram is bolstering creator content with their new Vertical Video Format.
Height versus width
As users continue to increase engagement through mobile devices, advertisers are focusing in on selfie and recording trends by mirroring content with a more vertical filming format.
Partnering with Creative Shop, Instagram advertisers and storytellers are experimenting with the 9×16 video to establish a new Instagram Creators series taking advantage of the format.
It seems the trend of posting more panoramic, or widescreen, content is being challenged by mirroring consumer use of their own devices.
Benefits of the new format
Instagram believes the new horizontal approach will better direct the eyes of audiences, encourage animated 2D and 3D advertisements, and push new type and design formats.
Being promoted as something of a revolution in marketing, the format is really a throwback, but a throwback users seem happy to embrace.
Analytics will be the deciding factor on the new trend, but it would appear the numbers are already favourable for Instagram to be unrolling the new initiative. Look for new ads to be standing tall (rather than sideways).
