Social media can be described as the ultimate digital see-saw: what goes up must eventually come down.
After a dream ascent to the top, it looks like Instagram might be falling back to earth. Or levelling off at least.
Instant karma
A recent report from Locowise that looked at 2500 accounts reveals that engagement on Instagram was down 19% in July, while follower growth had declined by 77%.
Back in May Instagram’s follower growth was 1.48%, compared to 0.34% in July.
It should be noted this is still ahead of Facebook’s 0.21% organic growth rates for pages.
Steady as she goes
But it’s not all doom and gloom.
Locowise also found that the most popular Instagram accounts posted more often (5.45 post per day) than their less engaged counterparts (1.69 post per day).
Brands looking to up their engagement should consider that videos and posts that tag other users and employ trending hashtags see more traction.
And there’s always the option of paying for promoted posts.
If you’ve got any Instagram engagement hacks, feel free to share them in the comments.
