Select Facebook users will soon be able to scan personalised QR codes instore and receive discounts at select shops, as Facebook aims to boost foot traffic to bricks-and-mortar retailers.
Early iterations look promising
A selection of users can now access the Rewards feature under the More section of the Facebook app. The codes are intended to allow shoppers to accumulate and redeem points when purchasing at a particular store.
Shoppers can also share details about the latest deals on Facebook.

The new feature will also provide stronger analytics on shoppers and individual habits, increasing the accuracy of targeted adds.
In the future, Wi-Fi, GPS, and cell towers could all play a role in mining data related to brand marketing and its effectiveness.
