Google’s G Suite is adding improved data access control to boost security to allow more control over third-party apps and how they use your data.
Keep it safe
Google’s latest feature “OAuth apps whitelisting” will allow user admins to choose which third-party apps are clear for accessing G Suite data.
This “whitelist” will provide a detailed breakdown of which apps are accessing the most data and how. The goal is to narrow down undesirable programs engaging in phishing schemes.
No longer will sinister apps be able to trick users into inadvertently providing access to sensitive corporate data.
You’re cool, you’re cool, you're not
In addition to being able to vet which apps have access, users will also be able to control to what extent. Unauthorised installs will also be limited within the new security feature.
Whatever preferences are set by admin will also filter to employees using the same interface. These latest additions will be exclusively accessed via admin controls.
Do you think this is a step in the right direction? Have you been burnt by hidden data access within third-party apps? Give us your thoughts in the comments below.
