We've all heard the term "Live in the moment". Now it seems Facebookers are taking the notion to heart.
To wit: one in five videos on Facebook are now Live.
We're doing it Live
The figure comes courtesy of Facebook's head of video, Fidji Simo.
Simo also revealed in a Facebook post that Live broadcasting has increased 4X in the past year.
Slowly but surely
The figures hint at a remarkable turnaround for Facebook. When Meerkat and Periscope first brought live streaming to the mainstream, Facebook was caught largely flatfooted. Making matters worse, Snapchat quickly swooped on the scene.
However Facebook rallied its considerable forces and soon released its own live streaming product. First for celebrities, then broadcasters, one year later Live is being embraced by Facebookers around the globe. Indeed, Live broadcasts are now watched 4X longer than pre-recorded videos.
