Here's one that's a bit different. Bucking the trend of social sharing, new app Spindle is all about keeping your content selfish.
Self-serving?
The newly released iOS app works on the principle of letting users create content for themselves.
The option of sharing is an optional extra.
Less can be more
Spindle works by letting users add content including photos, text and audio to their timeline. By default all posts are private.
The app aims to boost creativity and authenticity by encouraging users to create content they’re passionate about, rather than anything crafted to attract Likes.
Users can also create a journal of their posts that can be accessed via Spindle’s time-travel option.
Sharing is caring
Of course, content can also be shared with friends. However there are no friending or following options like on other social platforms.
Instead, to share content you add your friend’s name into the app. If they’re in your address book they’ll be able to view your posts.
Once viewed, posts can either be deleted or added to your friend’s Spindle journal.
And now for something a little bit different…
While this isn’t the first time a social platform has come along offering something that seems counter-intuitive (remember Ello?) it might go some ways to promoting more original content.
Whether you ever get to see it or not is another story.
