We've all been there: scanning through swathes of photos on the camera roll looking for that perfect snap.
However if you've had a smart phone for a few years, it's likely your mobile pics number in the thousands.
A new app call The Roll is here to help you pick the best ones.
Roll on
While beauty may lie in the eye of the beholder, The Roll uses some very clever tech to rate your photos.
The app employs image recognition technology to group photos together based on their content. For example: selfies, landscapes, portraits.
After grouping, The Roll includes tags to make your images more easily searchable.
Photo finish
The Roll then rates the "best" photos of each bunch. It does this by comparing the principles and composition of millions of curated photos, and compares them to yours.
Each photo is then assigned a score between zero and 100. The higher the score, the higher The Roll favours the image. Scores also include technical data such as shutter speed and ISO.
While The Roll may apply somewhat cold logic to finding beauty, at the very least it's a practical way of sorting and searching through your ever-increasing library of mobile moments.
