Snapchat preps for original News Feed

Snap Map remains the primary focus of Snapchat’s business with its map-based redesign released in 2017.

Search your surroundings

Snapchat is bringing its map feature into the core design of the app and encouraging users to thumb through Snap Map posts easily and methodically, keeping up with the movements of friends, all thanks to the new Map Explore feature.

The app is making a small shift towards event planning and fostering meetups with the new update. Important to note is that Snap Map is an opt-in feature, meaning that tracking is done through GPS movement, rather than status updates.

Snapchat’s idea of a map-based feed is meant to integrate with its conventional UI elements and keep users up to date with the whereabouts of other members.

Staying up to date

The tracking of devices allows for less tedium in keeping friends and family informed to one’s travels with the added benefit of real-time updates without constant diligence.

It will be easier for friends to conglomerate in the moment. However, Snapchat also plans to use the location tracking to tailor breaking news articles to users in an immediate surrounding area.

The new feature is expected to be rolled out world wide over the coming weeks and users can judge for themselves if the update is useful or just obtrusive.
