Snapchat has launched Search for Stories, which opens up the world of Snapchat content far beyond users you follow.
Super Snaps
Now Snaps submitted to Our Stories can be searched by anyone. There are currently over 1 million to choose from, ranging from the Super Bowl to the summit of Mount Everest.
Snapchat says you can use the new search function to check out a local basketball game, or the view from your favourite bar. In other words, the ability to live vicariously through Snapchat's community just got closer.
Significantly, these Snaps will break Snapchat's cardinal rule and hang around for longer than 24 hours. Some may even last for months.
Long life
Aside from expanding the reach of Snapchat content beyond your circle of friends, Search for Stories potentially puts Snapchat into competition with YouTube, except (mostly) in real-time.
While it's doubtful Snapchat's video vaults could ever seriously challenge YouTube or Facebook, the immediate and ephemeral nature of the content could lure even more eyeballs to the platform of the moment.
Is real-time becoming the new social currency? Let us know your two cents in the Comments.
