A new study says that Facebook will continue to surge as Twitter looks set to sputter.
New World Order
According to research from eMarketer, Facebook is set to increase its US user base by 2.9% this year, to claim 167 million Facebookers.
The data predicts Facebook will gain another 15.2 million US users by 2020.
Instagram is the second most popular social platform in the US, followed by Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr.
Flip side
While Twitter stays in third place, the long term forecast isn't rosy.
eMarketer predicts that by the end of 2016, 52.2 million US users will access their Twitter accounts monthly, marking a 2% increase year-on-year. This is down from eMarketer's prediction of 8% growth for 2016, announced back in February.
Reasons for the tumble include increased competition from Instagram, Snapchat, and messaging apps, while Twitter's new features haven't engaged users (or advertisers) as much as expected.
Stay tuned to see if Twitter's new Promoted Stickers can help turn the ship around.
