In 2017, US iPhone users spent 23% more on in app purchases than in 2016.

Apple iPhone consumers spent an average of $58 per active user in 2017, compared to $47 per active user a year earlier. The data comes courtesy of app store intelligence firm Sensor Tower.
The rising popularity of dating apps, streaming services, and games have contributed to the upward trend in purchasing. However these figures do not include e-commerce purchases such as payments through Amazon or Uber.
Games were far and away the largest category for Apple consumers, accounting for 62% of spending, up 13% since 2016. Entertainment Apps (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) grew 57% and accounts for $4.40 per device.
What’s on the rise
Spending in social media apps rose by 38%, while lifestyle apps like Tinder and Bumble grew 110%. Purchasing has been steadily rising all across the board.
According to Sensor Tower, iPhone app installs have risen by 10% between 2016 and 2017 with Gaming being the largest leader.
