If you're working in digital marketing chances are you're all over Twitter. But when was the last time you stepped back and had a look at your Twitter strategy?
As 2015 begins to rev up here are three things to consider before tweeting.
1. How Soon is Now?
There's no such thing as the perfect time to tweet. In fact if you look at 100 studies you'll probably find 100 different answers to the question.
The optimal time to tweet depends on your business and your followers. And the best way to find out what works is by testing.
Do early morning tweets work better than ones at midday? Do you see a drop off in replies when you post over X amount per day?
It's more art than science, but only by experimenting with different time schedules can you gain an understanding of what works. Any with analytics. See below.
2. Measurement
Twitter's analytics have traditionally been pretty basic, but they're improving.
Twitter Analytics now gives you a good overview into how your tweets are travelling, including impressions, replies and follower data.
For something more in-depth consider SumAll's reporting tool. You can also use tools like Topsy to research trending hashtags.
Once you know what's working, tweak your tweets accordingly.
3. The competition
Finally, there's nothing wrong with keeping an eye on the competition. And it's never been easier.
Rival IQ allows you to track competitors across a range of metrics including average tweets and engagement rates per day.
You can also see which posts were most successful, in terms of timing and content.
See how you stack up and adjust accordingly.
