Twitter is big news and increasingly big business, but with 400 million tweets generated every day finding relevant content can be tricky.
Twitter data partner Topsy is aiming to take some of the guesswork out Twitter with its latest project: indexing every tweet ever sent.
That’s right: every tweet generated since 2006 has been captured and compartmentalised by Topsy in a massive data capture project.
Topsy of the pops
Topsy has so far indexed over 425 billion tweets to create the largest archive of tweets ever created.
Previously, only institutions like The Library of Congress had access to this information, but it wasn’t readily available or easily searchable.
Topsy has made its findings available to the public, and entirely free.
Social data slice
Topsy’s co-founder and CTO Vipul Bed Prakash told Tech Crunch that the data being generated on Facebook and Twitter is now greater than the data being created on the rest of the internet.
This means that Google’s reach, while massive, is just one part of what's happening online.
It also means social data will increase in importance as marketers look to measure social influence and more accurately target advertising.
Bigger is better
The good news for brands is that Topsy isn’t stopping at Twitter.
The company already has an archive of all Google+ posts, and is eyeing other platforms in the future.
