Twitter has put a new service into a closed beta test phase: Promoted Accounts for a flat fee of $99 per month.
Auto-amplification
It sounds simple. Twitter says that participants in this new scheme should tweet as normal and that ‘some of those tweets will automatically be promoted’.
Functionally, it is going to promote up to the first ten tweets that one of the accounts put out each day. Retweets, quote tweets and replies will not be promoted and so will not count towards that daily limit.
Sign up for the beta
The sigh up page for the beta is publicly accessible here. But, it is a closed beta: unless you’ve been invited there’s slim chance of being one of the first few accepted.
To incentivise early adoption, beta participants are getting a free 30 day trial period to kick things off. It’ll switch to $99 per month after that, but you can turn it off at any time.
The catch?
Promoted Account will have linked Twitter Ads accounts suspended. To start new campaigns, you’ll need a new Twitter Ads account.
This could appeal to brands looking for a simple way to optimise their Twitter presence, and for Influencers looking to amplify the value they offer to their customers.
Has Twitter finally landed on a sweet-spot that might make sense for monetization of their platform?
