Twitter is extending its reach to logged out users with a pair of updates aimed at bringing wayward tweeters back into the #fold.
Reach out
Twitter announced the new updates, a refreshed homepage and home timeline, in a blog post.
“Every month, over 500 million people visit Twitter to see what’s happening around the world. From conversations around live events to breaking news to pandas playing in the snow, we want to make great content accessible for everyone — even if you’re not signed in.”
No place like home
The new user-friendly homepage is designed to help logged-out users more easily discover tweets, images and videos.
Until now, this souped-up version of the homepage was only available in the US and Japan.
Home timeline
Twitter’s home timeline is essentially designed for the same purpose, but for mobile users.
Previously, logged-out mobile users could see tweets, and that was pretty much it. Home timeline makes it easier for mobile users to follow content around tweets, such as conversations and rich content.
Bring 'em back
The updates are intended to address Twitter’s ongoing problem of stagnating user growth by appealing to new users and “lurkers” (Twitter users who sign up but don’t regularly tweet).
Twitter’s new homepage and home timeline are available in 23 countries, including Australia.
