Four in five Americans who use the internet are on Facebook, according to a new study by the Pew Research Center.
Take ownership
Pew surveyed 1520 American adults and found that 79% of online respondents use Facebook. The figure is streets ahead of Instagram (32%), Pinterest (31%), LinkedIn (29%) and Twitter (24%).
More women use Facebook than men – 83% to 75% – while 86% of adults aged between 18 and 49 are on the social network compared to 67% of those aged 50 and up.
This year's study found a 14% increase in Facebook use among people aged 65 and up from 2015.
The big blue
While Facebook's dominance is about as surprising as the sun coming up each morning, Zuckerberg's baby is also ahead in the true usage stakes.
Three-quarters of Facebook users use the social network on a daily basis, leading Instagram (51%) by a comfortable margin and being under no threat from Twitter (42%), Pinterest (25%) and LinkedIn (18%).
If one thing is clear from the results it is that brands should diversify at their peril, with Facebook set to remain the No.1 for a long time yet.
