For iPhone users, it’s about to get easier than ever before to read and follow up on other people’s embarrassing queries. Yahoo’s uber-popular question-and-answer site, Yahoo Answers, now has its own iOS app: Yahoo Answers Now.
A hive of quiet activity
Around 6 months ago, Yahoo quietly launched an app called Yahoo Hive in Apple’s App Store. It was basically a native iOS version of the Yahoo Answers website, but sporting nifty new branding.
With staggering user numbers for Yahoo Now—TechCrunch claims the site attracts more than 3 million monthly users in the US alone—the lack of Yahoo noise over a new standalone mobile app seems odd at first glance.
The softly, softly approach is even more puzzling when considering that Yahoo has previously placed mobile at the heart of struggling company’s survival strategy, and Answers is one of its more popular properties.
As it turns out, Hive looks to have been a beta version of the newly Yahoo Answers Now.
Now hear this
Yahoo Answers Now, like it’s web-based parent, allows users to easily ask, answer and follow up on questions they’ve struggled to find answers for elsewhere.
The iOS version offers a slick interface that’s optimised for mobile, making it easier and more convenient to use on the go.
For now, testing of the app seems to be ongoing. Currently it’s available only with an invitation code (you can request one by emailing yan-invites@yahoo-inc.com).
However, iOS users should expect an open release soon. Android users will have to wait – there’s currently no information on when the app might come to non-iOS devices.
