Back in October the world got its first taste of YouTube Red, the video streaming giant's new app that allowed users to subscribe for an ad-free experience.
It looks like users are more than willing to shell out for uninterrupted videos: YouTube Red has just entered the App Store's Top Ten list.
Red all about it
In addition to an ad-free experience across all of YouTube's apps (including YouTube Gaming and YouTube Music), Red also gives subscribers access to new content and channels, starting at US$9.99 per month.
Half of the subscription fee goes to YouTube content creators, however so far the app is only available in the US.
Future plans?
But there may be a caveat to YouTube Red's overnight success. The service came with a month-free trial period, and it's possible some (perhaps a lot) of users omitted to cancel their membership once their trial period expired.
Regardless, apps like Red indicate that YouTube is gearing up towards a paid subscription model, something music streaming platforms have long advocated.
For the rest of us, get in all the free Justin Bieber vids you can before the gravy train leaves town.
