Facebook on the attack for Slack

Facebook has announced it now has over 30,000 organisations using their project management platform Workplace, which could spell trouble for top competitors.

Ad-free and work friendly

Workplace is making waves with unprecedented growth, which only sat around 1000 at launch in 2016. Even against Slacks 6 million users, Workplace has some enormous brands using their service.

Delta Airlines, Heineken, Lyft, Spotify, and Starbucks are among the first adopters of Facebook’s project management platform.

In commemoration of Workplace’s first year, Facebook will be launching Workplace Chat, a new app for desktop eerily similar to Slack’s layout, and will soon to add group video chat for mobile and desktop.

Impersonation: highest form of flattery

The social network behemoth could prove to be more pervasive in its new foray into enterprise software, not only edging out Slack, but video-conferencing rivals Zoom and Google’s Meet.

Bringing its same tenacity to the professional sphere, Facebook has undercut Slack’s premium tier pricing at $3 a month versus Slack’s $6.67. With much deeper pockets, Facebook could undercut for years.

To ad insult to injury, in 2016 Uber dropped Slack citing the app could not meet their communications needs. With Walmart and Starbucks being substantially larger, the proof may already be in the pudding.

Yet Slack still has a strong reputation with smaller companies so the battle between David and Goliath may have just begun.
