Stat Attack: YouTube Today

New year, new you? If you’re looking to shake up your marketing mix this year, you’ve probably got video on the horizon.

With that in mind, let’s take a walk through the latest YouTube factoids.

Look at this

YouTube has over 1.5 billion monthly active users – that’s behind Facebook’s 2.1 billion, but ahead of everyone else.

Yet YouTube’s audience tunes in for longer. The average YouTuber spends one hour a day on the platform, compared to 20 minutes per visit for Facebook.

Breaking it down

YouTubers tend to represent a wide spectrum of ages, with 35 – 44 year olds are the most represented (26%). That's followed by 25 – 34 year olds on 23%.

On average, YouTubers are split 62% male, 38% female.

Watch this space

Over 500 hours of videos are uploaded to YouTube every minute. Most of these (41%) fall into the People and Blogs category.

Other popular sectors include Gaming (14%) and Entertainment (8%).

Interestingly, most views (60%) still come from desktop, with 40% on mobile.

And in case you were wondering, Despacito by Luis Fonsi is the most popular video on YouTube, with over 4.3 billion views. Vale Gangnam Style.
