In an attempt to monetise Messenger even further, Facebook is launching everyone’s favourite kind of ad, the one that intrudes with sound and video.
Aggressive ads
Facebook plans to bring video ads out of News Feeds and start populating Messenger inboxes with the new ad format ASAP.
Over a year of testing has yielded the possibility that users don’t find it a nuisance, especially when it appears halfway down your inbox.
According to a spokesperson for Messenger, “As we shared with advertisers at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, we are expanding the availability of video ads to Messenger."
Marketers have a new space
But there is some bitter hidden beneath the sweet: autoplaying ads are not battery friendly. This could put some users off with that knowledge alone.
In short, this is nothing users haven’t seen before with other platforms. Ads show up where people frequent the most. It’s happened with Stories and now the Messenger inbox. If it ain't broke?
What’s your feeling on the push for Messenger inboxes to house ad space? Is it too much? Give us your thoughts in the comment section below.
