CommBank updates Kaching

Launched in November 2011, Commonwealth Bank’s “social banking” app Kaching gave CommBank customers the ability to make handy funds transfers with their iOS and Android mobiles via text message, email, Facebook and BPAY.

iPhone users who purchased an iCarte phone case could also pay for goods and services directly using PayPass, and in July the app also received an update incorporating “bump” functionality, letting friends transfer cash to each other by touching their mobiles together.

Update gets sweet on Jelly Bean

So far largely successful, Kaching had a bit of a hiccup recently when users updating to the latest version of Android Jelly Bean found the app no longer worked on their mobile devices.

Kaching’s just-released update, however, claims to address the issue and get social banking on Jelly Bean back in action for CommBank customers.

Faster Facebook funds

For all the touted convenience, up until recently Kaching’s Facebook transfers were a little clunky. Users were notified that someone had transferred funds, but then had to authorise the fund collection manually.

With the new update, however, funds now go straight into your nominated Kaching bank accont.

Mobile money

With mobile continuing to increase its share of total online activity, CommBank’s app seems a sign of things to come as more customers embrace, and expect, increased mobile banking functionality.

Kaching is available as a free download from Apple's App Store. To start using Kaching click here.
