A “Movies” section is being rolled out on Facebook's app’s for select users, providing nearby theatre locations and showtimes.
Facebook, films, and you
The new “Movies” tab will be powered by a hybrid of Fandango and Atom Tickets booking services, with the feature also letting users purchase tickets directly through the app.
Last year, Facebook attempted a similar service through Pages regarding sales through Ticketmaster for films and events.
Facebook has improved on the pre-existing service and is creating a more streamlined system by which users can locate, choose, and attend movies near them.
Let’s all go see a movie
Last year, Fandago President Paul Yanover told the New York Times that a large part of their partnership through Facebook was the intention of connecting groups of friends to attend films together.
Facebook’s “test” with the new tab is proving to be more of a gradual roll-out with their continued goal of generating a one-stop app for just about any online service an individual could need.
In unison with the slowly appearing “Movies” tab, Facebook’s “Marketplace” section will be rolling out ticket services. With the ever rising popularity of digital tickets, more avenues to get those tickets can only grow.
Do you tend to get your tickets online? Would you use the new section for movie tickets? Let us know in our comments below.
