Facebook brings Video Calling to Messenger

In a nod to the increasing importance of instant messaging, Facebook has just added video calling to Messenger.

Facebook announced the news in a blog post. 
 
"Now you can have face-to-face conversations with your friends and the people you care about, via Messenger," explained Stan Chudnovsky, Head of Product for Messenger and Param Reddy, Engineering Manager.

Calling card

Users can start using video calling with one tap.
 
For example, if you're messaging a friend and want some face time, you can select the video icon on the Messenger screen to begin a video call.
 

A strong message

 
The update is the latest in a series of updates for Messenger's 600 million users. Facebook recently released an update allowing users to send money to friends via the app, and Business on Messenger is coming soon.
 
Video calling is now available on Android and iOS versions of the app in select countries, with an Australia and New Zealand roll out expected shortly.
