Is Apple Pay heading to Australia?

It's the dream of Apple fans and the nightmare of anyone in mobile payment arena. We refer to Apple Pay.

And it might soon be coming to Australia and New Zealand.

Pay to play

Apple Pay, the service that lets users pay for in-store products wirelessly using their iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus or Apple Watch, has been active in the US since last October.

However that is soon about to change as Apple Pay is expanding.

New markets

Apple Pay is reported to be launching in Canada this year, with a wider rollout expected in 2016.

However one setback could be the terms Apple sets with partner banks.

An article in CNET claims Apple gets a healthy 0.15% cut for every credit card transaction, and half a cent for every debit purchase.

Another issue is security and concerns criminals might use the service with stolen credit cards.

Core issues

However where there's a will (and a dollar to be made), there's often a way. Especially as consumers are demanding more versatility from retailers when it comes to payment options.
