Facebook Study: Multidevice movement in Oz, Thailand and Taiwan

Facebook has released a report outlining how people are using multiple devices en masse in Australia, Thailand, and Taiwan.

Less isn't more

Facebook IQ commissioned GfK to find out how users in these regions are switching up their devices.

For the study 1000 adults aged 18 – 54 years were surveyed, with near equal mutli-device usage across all markets.

Curve ball

Over 95% of people in each region used at least two devices, and 30% used three. The most common mix was smartphone, tablet, desktop or laptop.

And the young guns are leading the multi-device migration. In Thailand three quarters of multi-device users were millennials, while in Australia and Taiwan users were a bit more seasoned, aged between 35 – 54 years.

More than 70% of respondents synched their information across devices. A similar amount multi-tasked while lying in bed or watching TV.

One in three did so somehow while using the bathroom.

Make it better

Over 60% of respondents in each market said using multiple devices had improved their lives. In fact 83% of users in Thailand said multi-device use lead to greater overall satisfaction.

Australians were most likely to use multiple devices because it made them feel entertained and relaxed.
