Another week, another Messenger update.
This one’s a bit meatier than most and aimed at brands: Chat Extensions.
Chatterbot
Chat Extensions, announced at the F8 developers conference, lets multiple users to chat with the same business simultaneously.
To get talking, tap the (+) icon to open Chat Extensions. You can then add a business to your group. Brands already signed up include the NBA, The Wall Street Journal, Kayak, OpenTable, and Spotify.
Speak up
The update could allow brands to give their customers new experiences, based around their offering. For example, Spotify lets you share songs, and OpenTable lets you make group reservations.
Chat Extensions comes as Facebook is trying to figure out the best way to turn a buck from Messenger's 1.2 billion users.
Recent updates include the ability to send cash to other users, and the release of M, Messenger's virtual assistant. Plus a whole lot of emoticons.
