New app Kombie is taking selfies in a very Snapchat direction, and maybe beyond. Co-created by Baz Palmer (of Hunters & Collectors fame), it lets selfie snappers step into existing videos with relatively easy edits and transitions.
In the action
So consumers can put themselves into a scene, participate in a meme, and get a sense of sharing the spotlight.
It looks good for fun, sharable films in an instant. Users just need to download the app, select a clip they want to combine with, and a few seconds of their own footage to splice in.
Places to go
Presently, Kombie output saves to the devices media files folder. Sharing it to social is straightforward, but not yet integrated in-app.
Kombie is available in Apple’s App Store, with an Android equivalent promised soon.
Practical potential
Brands willing to invite Kombie clip-makers to toy with their videos will sense viral potential.
Creating videos that people want to insert themselves into will be one tricky part, while encouraging engagement will be the next hurdle. As yet, Kombie has no clear way to help this happen—neither free nor sponsored.
If the app catches on with consumers, hopefully they’ll remedy this ASAP.
Can you imagine Kombie clips spreading the word for your brand?
