Shopify Plus customers can look forward to significant upgrades to their e-commerce experience, with Shopify acquiring digital consulting and product development firm Boltmade.
Bright ideas
The Canadian company will take on Boltmade's 21 employees, the majority of which are engineers and designers.
Boltmade had previously built software for Shopify, as well as other large companies such as social network Kik.
Shopify counts over 1000 merchants among its Plus customers, including electric car company Tesla, Australian clothing company Black Milk, and the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers.
Rich man's world
Shopify said almost half of the merchants to sign up to Plus in the second quarter of 2016 were upgrades from the company's cheaper products.
The company's recent integration with Facebook Messenger has seen a huge take-up, with conversations between merchants and their customers already into the millions.
There is no indication of the features that the Boltmade team will be working on.
