Twitter’s latest play at TV

While 2017 might have been a rollercoaster for Twitter, you have to hand it to the platform. Twitter is still forging ahead with innovative features and shows no signs of tiring.

Over the holidays you may have noticed a new addition to your viewing line up: Twitter TV.

PopBuzz Presents is the name of the show produced by UK media company Global, exclusively for Twitter.

The half hour show streams from Twitter’s London offices every Thursday. Hosted by Will Hardy and Lilah Parsons, PopBuz Present features guest interviews, gaming, and trending topics.

Ratings winner?

More broadly, PopBuzz Presents fits into Twitter’s larger strategy of original content programming. The difference here is the potential for monetisation.

Twitter and Global are partnering on sponsorship deals that include pre and mid-roll ads, similar to traditional TV. Packages are reportedly priced between $33K to over $650K.

But the content needs to be compelling. With Facebook, Google, Apple and pretty much every major platform getting into the original programming game this year, expect that streaming schedule to get full very quickly.
