Video carousel ads have been around for some time on Instagram, but only for a select few.
Now, the gates have been pried open and the ad unit is available for all brands.
Bright shiny things
Instagram announced the news in a blog post.
"Starting today, you can add video to your carousel ad units.
"With the addition of video, advertisers can share up to five pieces of content—video or photo—for a richer storytelling experience."
Engagement add-on
Over the past six months, the time users have spent watching video on Instagram has increased by 40%.
Instagram reckons its research shows that adding video to an ad campaign drives more engagement than static-only images.
Mix and match
The new units let you mix up your photos and videos, adding up to five of each format in each ad unit. Content will appear in the order you determine, so brands have more flexibility in visually telling a story.
Video carousel ads can be created in the Ads Manager, Power Editor, or the marketing API.
