YouTube might be the undisputed king of the online video, but it wants to dominate the small screen too.
And it’s enlisting big kahunas like Ellen and Katy Perry to help along the way.
Don’t adjust your sets
YouTube has long offered streaming shows – indeed some YouTube stars are more famous than their TV-counterparts. At least with millennials.
Now YouTube has announced a raft of seven new shows that pull in talent beyond the world of online celebs. There’s Ellen’s Show Me More Show, Kevin Hart: What the Fit, and a Katy Perry Live Special.
Star power
The shows will reportedly be available for free, and is seen as a move to push YouTube into the premium content market alongside Amazon, Hulu, and Netflix.
It also comes as Facebook, Twitter, and even Snapchat are throwing their hat into the TV streaming ring. Stay tuned to see if social nous converts into Gold Logies.
