With the Federal election announced on Twitter, it seems like a good time to take a look at social media stats across Australia.
A recent report from Margin Media shows that Australians are still mad for Facebook, novelty ice-creams and Apple products.
As of July 2013 there are 13 million Facebook users across Australia, a rise of 800,000 from the previous month. This accounts for 58.24 of the total population.
Females are better represented on Facebook than males (53 per cent to 47 per cent), and the most common age segement is 25 – 34.
The three most popular brands on Facebook is Australia (1,292,026 fans), Bubble O' Bill Ice Creams (1,053,570 fans) and Skittles (961,877 fans).
Australian Facebook users also like travel and sport. Sydney Airport is the most popular place on Facebook with 665,349 check-ins, followed by the MCG (329,215 check-ins) and Brisbane Airport – Domestic Terminal (321,967 check-ins).
The rest
LinkedIn leads the rest of the social pack with 3 million users. Tumblr has 2.5 million users while Twitter comes in fourth with 2.1 million users.
Instagram is now almost 1.5 million users strong, while Pinterest has half a million and Google+ has 100,000 users.
Search
Chrome is the most popular internet browser and is used by over 34 per cent of Australians. Internet Explorer accounts for 26 per cent of market share, followed by Safari (20 per cent) and Firefox (16 per cent).
When it comes to search Google resoundingly dominates, processing 92 per cent of all search queries,
Mobile
Mobile remains a two horse race. iOS is the mobile operating system of choice for 66 per cent of Australians, followed by Android at 30 per cent.
Desktop is still top dog though, with 84 per cent of Australians surfing online via desktop compared to 15 per cent on mobile.
