Double the fun? Side-by-Side Video Views comes to Facebook

As the News Feed becomes increasingly dominated by video, Facebook faces a problem: videos take up a lot more real estate than text updates.

Facebook’s solution: side-by-side videos.

More bang for your buck

Now when a user plays a video in the News Feed, they can now continue to scroll down while the video goes “sticky”, appearing on the left side of the screen.

Users can move the video around the screen, and once it ends a Replay icon appears.

The feature was rolled out for mobile earlier this year, and now appears on desktop.

Square eyes squared

The feature could open up new advertising options for brands. For example, users could continue to watch videos while browsing other posts.  Side-by-side viewing could also work nicely with Facebook Live videos.

Either way, expect more videos vying for space in the News Feed. And don’t Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat, have all announced they’re moving into original programming this year.
