DIGITAL MARKETING NEWS

Facebook becomes a mobile money machine

Facebook might have ruffled a few feathers this week when it essentially forced users to down its Messenger app, but it has lots of reasons to feel confident. A few billion in fact.

That's because Mark Zuckerberg’s social network now nabs 62 per cent of its total advertising revenue from mobile.

Mobile moolah

Facebook just released its earnings for Q2 2014, and the news if very good for anyone with Facebook shares.

Over the past quarter Facebook amassed revenues of $US2.91 billion. That marks a 61 per cent increase from Q2 2013.

No growing pains

Facebook also revealed that it now boasts 829 million Daily Active Users, a jump of 19 per cent from the same time last year.

Monthly Active Users also increased 14 per cent over the same period.

On the grow

One of the biggest areas of growth came from Facebook’s Mobile Active Users, which now number 1.07 billion. That's an increase of 31 per cent year-on-year.

Interestingly, 30 per cent of users exclusively visit Facebook via a mobile device.

Add to the fact that Facebook now owns Instagram and WhatsApp, the social network is looking more like a mobile monolith.
