Facebook has released a group video chat app called Bonfire through the Denmark iOS App Store.
Facebook gets (video) chatty
Announced last July, Bonfire, Facebook’s new app, allows users to hold video chats with several other members simultaneously.
Users will be able to chat while overlaying several Snapchat-like filters and effects as well as share screencaps through Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger.
As relayed by Adam Blacker of app analytics outfit Apptopia, Bonfire has been downloaded by over 2000 Danes – the market having been chosen due to a history of high retention.
A hybrid of its predecessors
Several features have been made to mimic passed apps such as Blab.im, WeKiki, Houseparty, and Facebook prototype Meerkat.
Bonfire capitalises on two major current trends, these being the rise of video chat as well as the need for more private social experiences, all in one app.
With an intended teen demographic, Facebook will able to attract younger users within the social media family, so to speak. Bonfire’s street cred may be heating up and a global release is likely.
