You can never accuse Facebook of lacking ambition.
Not content to be the biggest social network in the world, Facebook is looking to dominate ever new areas including instant messaging, video and payments.
Now it looks like Facebook is eyeing music streaming.
Face the music
According to The New York Times, Facebook is currently in negotiations with leading labels for the rights to show music videos in the News Feed.
While videos are big business on Facebook (with 4 billion being viewed daily), music videos are largely absent from the mix.
Most viewers still watch music videos on YouTube, which makes up that platform's most profitable segment.
YouTube smack down
Facebook now wants music labels to skip YouTube and post directly in the News Feed.
To do this, Facebook is reportedly offering labels an enhanced Page layout.
You can’t stop the music
Apple upped the ante in streaming with the recent launch of Apple Music.
Expect the field to get noisier if Facebook throws its considerable hat into the ring.
