File Share with WhatsApp
WhatsApp is geared up to bolster its file-sharing capability to include more file types, with sizes up to 128MB.
What’s New?
In addition to the messaging, calling and video-chat for which it is famous, WhatsApp has also let users send basic file types.
Shortly, the latter functionality will be expanded to include all file types, and large file sizes.
So What?
This could improve collaboration possibilities on WhatsApp.
Previously, WhatsApp has only allowed the sharing of certain file types. The new functionality lifts that limitation, making it more useful to business, where non-standard file types are important.
How Secure?
WhatsApp boasts ‘Security by Default’, but it vaunts message encryption more than virus protection.
With the ability to send any type of file comes the potential for the distribution of malware. It will be interesting to see how WhatsApp manages this potential risk for its users.
Who Gets?
According to WABetaInfo, the new file sharing capabilities are rolling out across the iOS, Android and Windows. However, there’s no official timeline for the feature push.
It looks like it’s being tested with select users first with a broader roll-out to come soon after.
With messaging and calling apps being so competitive, does the expansion of WhatsApp capabilities give you reason to reconsider what you’re using?
