Pinterest is closing the gap on Twitter and women are more socially savvy then men, according to the latest statistics from the Pew Research Centre.
While the figures only refer to US users, they provide an interesting snapshot into social usage today.
Pinterest closes in
The biggest, though perhaps not entirely surprising revelation, was that Pinterest is quickly catching up to Twitter.
15 per cent of those surveyed are Pinterest users, while 16 per cent are on Twitter.
Women winning social
Women are far more likely to use social networking sites than men (71 per cent compared to 62 per cent.)
Women are also five times more likely to use Pinterest, and are twice as likely to be college-educated.
College gap
Interestingly, people with a university degree are less likely to use social networks than those without (65 per cent vs 69 per cent).
Mobile movement
Mobile continues to grow, with 40 per cent of smartphone owners using social networks – and some 28 per cent doing so daily.
Facebook fans
Overall, the study found a massive 67 per cent of users are on Facebook, 20 per cent use LinkedIn and 13 per cent use Instagram.
